Osseo will once again welcome more than a dozen high school marching bands to compete in the 7th Annual Osseo Marching Band Festival on Saturday, June 29, 2013. As on of the largest competitive events in the State, the Osseo Marching Band Festival brings the best bands from around Minnesota to compete for prizes and prestige.
The day’s activities begins at 7:00 AM – 10:30 AM with the ever famous Waffle Breakfast Fundraiser Buffet at the Osseo Junior High School. This all-you-can-eat most important meal of the day includes delicious Dad’s Belgian Waffles with all the fixin’s, sausages, cereal, scrambled eggs, bagels, cream cheese, fruit, orange juice, coffee and milk. The cost is only $10 per person with all the profits going directly to support the Band Festival. (Children under five eat free).
Bands being arriving in town around 9:00 AM and will stage in the streets on the east side of Osseo for several blocks around the starting point of the competition. No parking signs will be placed Friday afternoon. If you live east of 4th Avenue, please help us by parking your vehicles in the driveway or garage on Saturday from 9:00 AM until 2:30 PM. You are welcome to come out and watch the students warm-up for the event. Look for one of our volunteers in the bright orange safety vest and come say hi!
At noon, the main event begins – the band competition. Stating at 2nd Street NW and 6th Avenue NW, the bands will play four times on their way to the Osseo Senior High School. Be sure to find a great spot and sit at any of the Play Zones. Here’s a viewing tip: Bands always focus their performance to the own right side!
Play Zone 1: The warm-up area, begins on 2nd Street NE at 5th Avenue NE.
Play Zone 2: Judging, begins on 2nd Street NE just west of 3rd Avenue NE.
Play Zone 3: The media Play Zone, begins on 1st Avenue NW at 3rd Street NW.
Play Zone 4: The Finale, begins on 5th Street NW at 2nd Avenue NW.
There are 18 total marching units – 15 high school marching bands, the Osseo/Maple Grove American Legion Post 172 Color Guard, the Robbinsdale City Marching Band and the Osseo High School Alumni Marching Band. Viewing tip: The host band at all Band Festivals does not complete but are still evaluated by the judges.
After marching through the streets of Osseo, the bands gather at the High School stadium to cheer on their school as awards are presented. The awards event is FREE and open to the public. Concessions are available for sale and all proceeds go directly to the Band Festival.
Plan your day accordingly – come on out and enjoy this wonderful family event. Join us for breakfast and then cheer on your favorite school. Give applause to all the students who have been giving up the past 5 months of their free time to master their well-choreographed and exhilarating musical performance.
